Some years ago the Swiss Athenion AG started to look for interesting new pharmaceutical patents and licenses in countries beyond the large markets of Europe and the USA. Due to excellent contacts to scientists all over the world a number of suitable projects could be started. After a validation of the projects the task of Athenion AG is their refining and preperation for a worldwide marketing.
Meanwhile Athenion AG owns the exclusive options of worldwide patent, license and marketing rights for a portfolio of several innovative medicaments and medicine technologies. These active ingridients and products all are state of the art in biomedical research.
According to Athenion AG's corporate strategy it founds a new corporation for each of the marketable products, provides it's financing, but also opens it for investors and strategic partners from outside.
One of these "spin-off" companies is MetrioPharm AG, which in early 2007 took over all patents and assets for the highly valuated innovative active ingredients of the class MP1000 from Athenion AG.
MetrioPharm's main product is named MP1021. It's a new medicament, which influences the cells of the human immune system in a highly selective way and brings insufficient functions back to normal level (it's a so-called Immune Response Modifier). Active ingredients of the MP1000-group are succesfully tested in fields with an urgent need for new, more effective medical treatment:
Based on MP 1000, MetrioPharm AG develops drugs and derivatives for the cure of other infection and inflammatory illnesses.
The active agents of class MP1000 are of Russian origin. Leading medical scientists and biochemists of Russia did intesive research for improved alternatives to common antibiotics before the collapse of former Soviet Union. In the 1990's the research showed first results, they found a new class of promising active agents. By the radical political and social changes then following the project grinded to a halt at first. Russian business people using the favor "of the hour" started to do business with an available precursor of today's active agent. They did so without knowledge and cooperation of the inventors. These wheelings and dealings later reached even Germany where the active agent was offered as a "miracle cure" against cancer in a slippery and deceitful way. The inventing scientists and developers as well as the Athenion AG and MetrioPharm AG dissociate themselves resolutely from this dubious business. It exploited seriously ill patients in a criminal way, selling an alleged miracle cure for cancer to them at exorbitantly excessive costs. According to present medical scientific knowledge the active agents of class MP1000 are very effective for the cure of inflammatory and infective deseases. But they don't have direct therapeutical influence on cancer cells. The described wheelings and dealings could fortunately be ended fast. The developers of the MP1000 as well as Athenion AG have supported the authorities against this deceitful activities in Germany.
By now the original substance has been refined and clinically tested very successfully for the therapy of many infectious deseases, some of them are life-threatening and were classified immedicable. In Russia and some other countries drugs based on MP1000 have successfully passed all clinical tests and got regulatory approved. The Inventors of MP1000 continued their projects within the last years supported bei Athenion AG. They refined and patented their active ingredients and made some of them ready for marketing.
Now MetrioPharm AG, which owns the worldwide patents on MP1000, completes these researches and extends them to other deseases. MetrioPharm AG does the researches in cooperation with scientific and clinical partners in Western Europe, the USA and in Russia.
